GUINEA PIGS! YIKES! I'm so excited, actually. I grew up with my own sweet guinea pig. His name was Porky. He was fat and super fluffy, sort of like this brown one below. They (we had three total) loved my dad...and would squeal when he would come home. My brothers and I used to take them outside in the summer and feed them grass and make huts for them. We had a lot of fun!

Well, this last Saturday, Dan, the kids, my brother Shawn and cousin Erica went to see the movie
Bedtime Stories and there was a guinea pig in it. Also Dan and I have been "discussing" the possibility of getting a dog. Our kids are big animal lovers, especially Abby. Dan suggested, after the movie, we all go walk around PetSmart. The kids were so excited! Well, Dan got a bee in his bonnet and started looking at the guinea pigs. They are a wonderful first pet. They require a fair amount of care and love each day and as the kids get used to them and the guinea pigs get used to the kids, the will make a fun, and relatively easy pet. They live 5-8 years but can live less if they catch colds. I remember ours died of colds and I honestly can't remember how long we had them. I loved my one and only pet Porky :) Well, next thing we knew we were walking out PetSmart with two guinea pigs. The kids were ecstatic! Here are some pics of the kids and our new guinea pigs.
The kids picked the names: Peek-a-Boo (the brown one, with the one white spot on her nose) and Missy (the multicolored one). They are both female, so I'm happy to report there will be no reproducing :) Also, the male variety tends to fight, like the three we had growing up.

Yes! Guinea Pig power! My sister has one named Nancy Drew right now, she is albino. We had Suzanne the long haired guinea pig but she died last year, may she rest in peace. Congrats! I love guinea pigs!!
SWEET! im glad your kiddos have a pet now!! We always had hampsters blah! they would always bite so i always wanted a guinea pig!...enjoy woman!
What fun!!!!
so totally awesome!! i bet the kids love love love their new friends!!! We are checking into having 4H lambs for the summer. A bit bigger and more work but supposedly a good money maker for kids and lots to learn and experience!!! We think it is a good lesson on finances to have Annie and Megan pay for everything we need to get lambs and take care of them and then when they sell at the end of summer, they will get what is left depending on how much they spend. But who knows if this will even be a good idea for us this summer!!
Funny Story! In my aunts ward a little 4 year old girl gets up to bear her testimony. She say in her too cute voice..."This week we lost our Guinea Pig...We couldn't find him and my daddy was getting really mad...but then we found that Stupid Son of Bitch!!!" The dad gets up and says shameless "I was really mad!" They are so v=cute I bet the kiddos just love them!
You are officially the best mom ever. I guiltily am a "no pet mom". well, that excludes the pet gecko we have that stays in its cage always. Great pictures...and I recognize that Hood to Coast T you are wearing, nearly brought a tear to my eye!! Miss you!
Fun for you guys! :) Your kids are so cute and you look great too. :)
I think we'll stick with getting a puppy. . .even though I know it will be a LOT of work. The guinea pigs are kind of cute though. :)
